For Immediate Release Aug 4, 2017 (FERNDALE, Mich.) – Top U.S. athletes age 21 and under will compete Jan. 26–Feb. 3 at the Detroit Curling Club for 2018 USA Curling Junior National Championships to determine Team USA for the 2018 World Junior Championships. Ten men’s and ten women’s teams will face off after having qualified for the championships through a national berth system. The respective competitions will comprise a round robin with the top four teams making a playoff for the title. The 2017 U.S. men’s champions earned silver medals at the World Junior Championships. In 2016, the U.S. women also won silver, boosting promise and prestige for American curling. Established in 1885, the Detroit Curling Club has hosted numerous national championships including those for men, women and mixed. The club also was the site of the 1977 Junior Nationals. “Hosting the Junior Nationals will help us develop our own junior curling program,” club president Jim Morris said. “For those athletes looking to compete at national and even world levels including the Olympics, curling offers a relatively short and direct path. Many of today’s top curlers started in their early teens. We’d love to get more local youngsters involved in this great game.” Tickets for the championships will go on sale in the fall. The club also will live-stream games and provide lively, insightful social media commentary. The Detroit Curling Club is dedicated to the enjoyment, fellowship and promotion of curling, and offers curling from late October to April at its facility in Martin Road Park, Ferndale. 248-544- 0635 For more information: Detroit Curling Club: Fred Zosel, 313-469- 9800 USA Curling: Terry Davis, Director of Communications,, 608-338- 9900 (mobile) or 715-344- 1199, Ext. 202 (office).
